Documentary for Dinner: Ethos (2012)

karma

Narrated by Woody Harrelson, Ethos is a documentary about how our capitalist system allows large corporations and private interests to control society and ignore the will of the majority despite the apparent democratic advances of the last 200 years.

Ethos ends with a rallying call for democratic spending; i.e. rewarding companies that behave desirably with your loyalty and boycotting those that do not. Unfortunately, thanks in part to globalization and also general apathy we have seen how little boycotts against the likes of Dow or Coca Cola have worked in the past. Interestingly, it is a similar ideology of market-directed democracy which led to wholesale deregulation of the financial industry during the Clinton era.
